I live, play and teach guitar in Los Angeles and play many styles of music. I’ve spent many years playing acoustic and electric guitar in original, blues, pop, rock, cover and jazz bands. I perform solo guitar, play locally with the Matt Alber "melodic pop" band, and play with the Rex Merriweather 16-piece band that does jazz, big band, funk, latin and rock music. Rex's band includes touring/recording players from Buddy Rich, Quincy Jones, Dixie Chicks, Stevie Wonder, Arturo Sandoval, Guns & Roses, Tower of Power and many other high profile artists, and we play great arrangements of great songs! I started playing guitar when I was 13 and have a varied musical education through several colleges and teachers. I have done a lot of my own studying and practicing using books like "Chord Chemistry" by Ted Greene, "Superchops" by Howard Roberts, and the old "Kicking Mule" record and tab series for fingerstyle guitar. I've been fortunate to take lessons with Guitar Greats Ted Greene, Howard Roberts, Joe Pass, Robben Ford and several other guitarists. I’m a total gearhead and I enjoy playing several types of guitars and amps! I love playing electric guitar, but there's something very organic about playing an acoustic guitar, it's just wood, steel and me, and I guess some glue. :) My current acoustic rig is: Stonebridge OM-23 CM 6-string guitar with a Fishman Matrix Natural active pickup Larriveé OMV-03 6-string guitar with a K&K Mini Western pickup (passive) Breedlove Focus Performance Series Maple 12-string with LR Baggs Dual electronics Schertler Unico amp LR Baggs Para DI pre-amp Lexicon LXP-1 or Electro Harmonix Holy Grail PLus 5 for reverb & delay etc. An old Ibanez VL10 Volume Pedal Peterson Strobostomp tuner I use Elixir .012 custom light nanawebs on the Stonebridge I use Elixir .011 custom light nanawebs on the Larrivee I use Elixir .010 light nanawebs on the Breedlove 12-string My electric rig is usually changing, and there's some pics up on facebook, but I'll post some here soon too. I listened to a lot of David Grisman, Jean Luc Ponty, Steely Dan and I always liked Toto. In my teens, it seemed impossible to not hear music of rock bands like Journey, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Doobie Brothers, Creedence and all those other 70’s bands who were always on the radio. I could keep going, but there’s too many to list.
